David Levin
A protégé of swing great Johnny Guarnieri (of The Benny Goodman and The Artie Shaw Bands) and one of the top San Francisco Bay Area pianists, David Levin has evolved from a classic jazz pianist into a cabaret concert pianist. Known for performing the show tunes and movie songs of Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and others, Levin now specializes in the showcasing of entire movie scores from classic movies of the 30s, 40s and 50s. Along with his jazz styles, the compositions of the three most prolific classic movie composers--Max Steiner, Alfred Newman and Eric Wolfgang Korngold--are S.F. pianist David Levin's primary focus. The pianist at The Rainbow Room in New York, The Mark Hopkins Hotel, the famous Blue Fox and The Pacific-Union Club in San Francisco, Levin has played for heads of state, congressmen and other notables. He has appeared in the columns of the late Herb Caen and Pat Steger in the San Francisco Chronicle. He has performed at every major society event in San Francisco, and performs in Napa, Sonoma, Sacramento, Reno, Monterey and San Francisco. The mp3 tracks below feature Levin leading his small swing band, The David Levin Swing Band, and provide the listener with good examples of his classic jazz piano style.
